JR East: Yonesaka Line

This local DMU is running on the JR East Yonesaka Line through rich rice paddies near Yonezawa, an old castle town in Yamagata Prefecture. The 90.7-km line climbs out of the Yonezawa basin into mountains and over the watershed before running down to Sakamichi where it joins the Uetsu trunk line along the Sea-of-Japan coast. Expresses once ran along this route linking Sendai on the Pacific coast with Niigata on the Sea of Japan, but now the line is only served by local stopping trains.
